Docman SNOMED Switch - Mapping issues with Codes

Training Updated by Training

This is a supplementary article to support you if you have issues with saving SNOMED codes that have been offered in the third step; the Mapping process.

If you have not yet read the first 3 articles in this series, follow the links below.

Issues with Mapped Codes

Some users may experience issues during the SNOMED code switch process. When users attempt to replace certain Read codes.

For example, replacing Seen in accident and emergency department Read code, with Seen by accident and emergency service SNOMED code, the system will NOT allow the user to confirm or save the new SNOMED code.

This issue doesn’t affect all codes—only a small volume.

User Workaround

  1. When a user encounters a code that cannot be confirmed, make a note of:
    1. The specific SNOMED code they were unable to add or replace.
    2. Which template it must be added to, either the Intellisense or Filing templates.
  2. Continue to map the remaining codes as instructed, noting any additional ones that fail to confirm.
  3. After completing the main mapping process, save and confirm all the successful mapped codes.
  4. Return to the templates noted with the codes that could not be confirmed, and add the missing SNOMED codes - the correct codes can now be selected and confirmed successfully.
Please do not stop the mapping process due to this issue, as it only affects a small volume of codes, and the manual steps will not add much time to the overall task.

Other steps in the switch process

If you need to go back to step 3 in the process, the link is in the introduction above.

Once you have managed the issues by following the steps above, you are ready to continue the process. Follow the link below to the fourth article in the series.
