This article will help you understand how the Patient Facing Services in EMIS are managed using Patient Visibility settings in Docman.
Background
The NHS Long Term Plan has commitments to provide patients with digital access to their health records. More information can be found here: NHS Digital - Accelerating patient access to their record.
We will be supporting you to manage patient visibility via Docman, this document explains what functions have been enabled.
There are limitations in the process currently, and we continue to work collaboratively with NHS Digital and EMIS to provide you with a more advanced solution.
What changes have been made?
New features have been added to Docman to allow more control over document visibility to patients via Patient Facing Services (PFS). Users will be able to decide at the point of filing or during the workflow process as to whether the document should be made visible or if they would like to prevent the visibility to the patient.
PFS Statuses
The PFS visibility (PFS status) of the document is dependent on where it is in the Docman process. There are two main attributes that determine if the document is visible in PFS; Provisional Flag and Visibility Flag.
A document can have one of three PFS statuses at any given time.

Yes - During Workflow | Invisible | While a document is in a provisional state, it si not visible to patients |
No - Filing complete, or Workflow complete | Visible | Visible to patients |
No - Filing complete, or Workflow complete | Invisible | Invisible to patients |
