Read2 to SNOMED Switching

This article introduces you to the process required to enable the switch from Read2 to SNOMED in your Docman system.

SNOMED-CT (referred to as SNOMED throughout these articles) is the clinical vocabulary used for electronic health records worldwide.

NHS Guidance

You can see more guidance from NHS Digital about the implementation of SNOMED on their website:

NHS Guidance on SNOMED code usage

The transition to using SNOMED does not need to be done in parallel with your clinical system.

Introduction

When changing the code setting, an NHS Assured Mapping tool will aid the rebuild of the predefined Filing and Clinical Codes lists, and the Filing and Intellisense Templates.

These lists and templates will be rebuilt using SNOMED codes offered by the Mapping Tool. Any READ codes that do not have an equivalent SNOMED code will be identified.

The linked articles will guide you through the steps to prepare your system, report on current content, and complete the mapping and switch process.

Ensure that you read and watch ALL the content prior to attempting the switch.

There are four steps and you can follow the links below to discover the process.

  1. Docman SNOMED Switch - Step 1: Checks
  2. Docman SNOMED Switch - Step 2: Reports
  3. Docman SNOMED Switch - Step 3: Mapping
  4. Docman SNOMED Switch - Step 4: The Switch

If you have Abbreviations configured in your system, or you are unsure what they are, please also follow this link after the switch has been made to complete this final step.
